Description
Thank you so much to those who have taken the time to look at our various items and also to those who kindly purchased pieces from our collection! We have the experience and care to pack these very fragile works. Here is a pair of totai shippo vases.Totai shippo are cloisonne enamels in which a ceramic, earthenware or porcelain foundation is decorated with areas of cloisonne enamels.
Specialists have consistently stated that these totai shippo works were made for a very short time-frame, mostly likely between 1890 - 1910.
The pair of vases are decorated with two panels outlined with red cloison borders. One panel depicts a group of flowers while the other panel is worked with colorful flowerheads,
The background of both vases is worked with the classic bean or heart shaped cloisons.
Both vases are in excellent antique condition without any major faults such as cracks, chips or hairlines or restorations.
One of the vases is slightly off center, which is very hard to detect.
As in most all totai shippo, there are areas of very light rubbing and abrasion as the artist polished the cloisonne enamel areas.
The interior rim or mouth of both vases is decorated with two flower heads with scrolling vine like foliage.
Ont the interior rim of the base, the artist has signed both vases with the katakana character of “Ho,” which is most likely the partial last name of the artist.
Another possible kanji character reading could be “Ki,” but it not likely.
The height of each vase is approximately 7.75 inches
The width of each vase is approximately 3.5 inches at the midpoint
Overall, a fine pair of matching vases in excellent antique condition that is becoming very hard to find together.
Due to the very fragile nature of totai shippo; we request that the buyer help in offsetting some of the USPS Priority Mail cost. The vase will be double boxed and packed with tremendous care.
This vase will be shipped by USPS Priority Mail with insurance to confirmed addresses within the United States. We currently cannot ship overseas or make international deliveries at this time due to fragile nature of these types of work.
